Behind the Scenes

The Tooele City Arts Council (TCAC) has been working hard to create a vision and plan for the continued use and improvements to the historic Ritz Theater. Since taking over the stewardship of this movie theater, work has been started to improve the safety and experience of the theater. The Arts Council has limited funding for making the needed improvements, so they have began the process of requesting funds through grants and donations.

To better manage the operations and improvements to the theater, the Council hired Brad Tippetts as the building manager. Brad has experience in management, construction, and live productions. He has began using his expertise to complete contract work to repair the leaking roof, improve fire protection and life safety standards, and help coordinate the deep cleaning and light repairs to the building. He has also been trained to operate the projector and sound equipment. He, along with a few volunteers, are on the Ritz Building Committee, working to bring the Council’s vision to life.

Brad later was designated as the Ritz Theater Manager, with the added responsibility of planning and scheduling the events to be held at the theater.

Since the Tooele City Arts Council has taken over operation of the theater, it has been used for movie events, a magician, and symphony orchestra. Brad and the Council are looking at other events to include a film festival, comedy acts, game show nights, live musical entertainment, and theatrical plays. We are only limited by what constitutes “The Arts”, as our mission is to promote the arts in Tooele City!
